Why Water Resistance Must Be Tested
Pressure ratings in listings should never replace an independent test of the actual watch.
Water resistance depends on case tolerances, gaskets, crown condition and correct assembly. A printed rating or seller assurance cannot confirm the seal of an individual example.
Test before exposure
A competent watchmaker can perform a dry pressure test without immersing the watch. Re-test after the case is opened or when a gasket is replaced.
Know the limits
Passing one test is not a permanent guarantee. Avoid operating crowns or pushers in water unless the design and test conditions expressly support it.
